Solar PV Systems take the energy from the sun and convert it to energy that we can use around the house. It allows the homeowner to not only receive free electricity, but you can also qualify for the Feed In Tariff Scheme and get paid for what you generate.
Energy prices in the UK have been constantly rising and the demand for electricity is only going up. With new properties being built and the demand for things like electric cars only ever increasing the UK needs renewable energy to form a larger portion of where we get our energy from.
The way the system works is that the energy from the sun is harvested by the cells in the solar panels and creates DC power, that DC power is that converter in AC power using an inverter which can then be used around the house or exported to the national grid. A generation meter will then determine how much you have generated and essentially how much you will get from the FIT.
The government released a document recently with plans to eradicate the Feed In Tariff completely for new installations in April 2019, they say the savings from this will be passed on to homeowners. This will not affect anyone already on the scheme as the payments are guaranteed for 20/25 years. So even with the feed in tariff only a small amount compared to what it was, up until April will be the last chance you have to get paid for what you generate.
There are a lot of options when it comes to PV systems. There are many different brands of solar panels, each with their own merits and costs, and the same can be said about inverters.
